Yak And Merino Wool Fiber Characteristics - Take Advantage
Wool from sheep may differ in its softness and strength. Merino wool from sheep is often thought of as the most soft. The softness is due to the small diameter of individual fibers, that is around 18-24 microns. The diameter of cashmere fibers is of 11-12 microns. wool is made from Romney sheep is a diameter of 29-36 microns. Merino wool is very comfy to knit projects. Merino wool comes with a variety of features, such as good warmth and moderate strength. It also has good elasticity and moderate quality of luster. It also has very easy to feel. Here is a complete listing of the characteristics of the Merino wool.

Characteristics of Fibers
Softness: This characteristic is in the hands of the wearer: What feels good on the skin of one knitter may not be so for another knitter.Warmth A particularly useful characteristic for cool-weather garments.
The term "strength" refers to the ability to resist pull force (or tensile forces).
Luster: Does it shine? Lustrous fibers such as mohair and silk dye vibrantly.
Elasticity: Will the knitted or yarn fabric return to its original shape after it's stretched? It's dependent on how much it is being pulled. What is the amount it can stretch?
How does it drape? Does it flow?
Halo: There are some yarns which produce a glow due to yarns that diverge from the central yarn.
Knitted fabric can become stiffened, and can be obscured by agitation. Different fibers shrink differently when felted.

Thermal Properties Of Yak And Merino Wool
Yak and merino wool base layer fabrics are the pinnacle of base layers. The base layer of our collection is made using merino and yak wool and blend these natural qualities with merino for all-day warmth, comfort and air-flow. The first ever yak wool technical fabrics have been created. It offers outdoor adventurers with unparalleled warmth and temperature regulation. High-altitude habitats are the secret to the woolly warmth of yaks. These hardy beasts have evolved their super-wool to withstand the cold at altitudes of 4,000 to 6,000 metres and the harsh winter season.

The warmest base layers we offer 60 percent premium Yak wool, 40% supersoft and luxurious Merino. These are a high rated thermals for men blend.

Other Fibers To Consider
Highland wool is often made from Corriedale sheep, and is typically grown in Peru. It is not as soft and flexible as merino, however it is warmer than merino and has excellent elasticity.
Dual-coated animals sport delicate undercoats made from baby camel, Yak Down as well as cashmere. They are extremely soft and warm, and they possess a slight elasticity. They drape more smoothly than merino. They are able to create subtle haloes in knitted fabrics and yarns. They come in natural shades of gray and brown (as well as white) which means they can alter the color of dyed yarn.

Mulberry silk, also known as bombyx silk, is made of the cocoons produced by silk-producing moths. Mulberry silk (or bombyx) is extremely pale while tussah silk has an ethereal golden brown. Both silks can be strong and beautiful. They also are very soft. Silk was cool in hot temperatures, and warm when cold. These silks drape wonderfully because they are incredibly soft and supple.

Mohair is the fiber from Angora goats. Mohair's characteristics vary depending on the age of the animal. The clips that are first and second feature mohair that is kid-friendly. It's the softest. It's got a beautiful shine and is flexible. It drapes nicely. Young mohair (third and fourth clips) can be very much as kid, however it's stronger and more shiny. Mohair that is mature (from goats that are older than two years) is strong and shiny. It's resistant to felting and has a wonderful drape. Regardless of age, mohair is a wonderfully warm fiber.

Nylon is a type of synthetic polyester that is frequently used in wool yarns to improve the strength, and consequently durability of the yarn. While it does have some elasticity but it is not able to hold as much water as wool.

Superwash Merino. To make sure that wool fibers adhere to one another, they are coated with scales. This allows wool yarns with low twist to be spun. This is also the reason for some of wool yarns' feelability and springiness. Superwash wool is made up of wool fibers that have been removed or covered up. Superwash wools can have a bit more twist and as a result, knitted fabrics may not have the same flexibility. Superwash wools can be washed in the machine and won't be a pain, making them an easy-care choice. Superwash merino is usually combined with nylon for strength and easy-care.

Alpaca (huacaya suri) is a warm and supple wool that adds softness, and improves the drape of knitted fabrics. It feels almost as good as merino, if any is as good as similar to merino.
Angora is an Angora rabbit. It's unbelievably soft, and it's so warm! It's very comfy and has a distinct shimmer.
Cotton is very elastic and cool. Merinocotton blends are among my top sweaters. These yarns can be used to create spring and autumn garments.
